2021 Citizen of the Year

A huge congratulations to our very own Carmen Lee Platt – GG’s CEO and co-Founder – yesterday announced as 2021 Citizen of the Year for City of Ryde!

From all of us at GG we are so proud of you Carmen and the passion and genuine care you bring to everything you do!

In her own words, Carmen said:

“It was amazing to stand up there for all our team and thank them for the support we have received from the beginning from Ryde Council and our community. At the end of the day, we all just want to feel there is someone beside us through thick and thin. GG walks beside people experiencing great hardship, helping them get some of the trickiest essentials they need to make a home and brighter future.

This award is for our volunteers and staff at GG - we simply could not do what we do without your incredibly kind hearts, commitment and hard work.

My favourite moment was standing up there and looking at my boys Ollie (10) and Hugo (8) and them waving madly and proudly. We celebrated with gelato afterwards.

Thank you to Zara Crichton of the Venture Café for the nomination!

The other nominees were an incredible mix of big-hearted people doing amazing things for people, planet, you name it. I particularly loved meeting Alex Noble, 2021 Young Citizen of the Year - he is an influencer for resilience and perseverance following a spinal cord injury playing rugby when he was just 16 years old. #IFightYouFight

Thank you to all of you who continue to follow GG’s journey – with this kind of bedrock support, along with our growing list of key partners who provide amazing services (Herbert Smith Freehills, Armstrong Q), funds (Goodman Foundation, All In Giving Circle, Vivcourt), goods (Accor, Built, Koala, Unitex) and our secret kindness weapon of temporary rent free warehouses (currently thanks to Paynter Dixon, Payce Foundation and Frasers Property + Winten Group), we are well on our way to helping more people into more homes in Sydney and beyond, while helping the planet too. Who wants in?”
